    Visit

Posted on April 29th 2009 in Things To Do

Duluth MN HarborThe city of Duluth, Minnesota welcomes you to come and enjoy all that it has to offer - especially the free attractions and those that cost so very little.  You don’t need to spend a lot to have a wonderful time when you visit Duluth!

The Tweed Museum on the University of Minnesota - Duluth campus offers visitors a host of exhibits and events.  The Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum is the largest holder of manuscripts and documents - including an original Bill of Rights.   The Lake Superior Marine Museum in Canal Park will give you the history of Lake Superior and information on shipping in the Twin Ports as well as fun facts and a view of the canal.  Strolling through Canal Park and watching the ships come in and out beneath the Aerial Lift Bridge is free of charge.

Summer months feature Movies in the Park at Leif Erickson Park.  Bring your blankets and enjoy the show!  Summer is the ideal time to stroll the shores of Lake Superior and enjoy the Park Point Beaches.

Duluth thrives on the natural elements of the Northwoods.  Take a hike or a bike ride through Jay Cooke State Park.  Be sure to experience the swinging bridge!  A visit to Enger Tower will provide a panoramic view of the city and Lake Superior.  Enger Park offers up peaceful trails for an afternoon walk or picnic.  Duluth takes pride in its Rose Garden  where every spring volunteers raise the roses.  Blooms appear mid-summer to fall.  Take a drive up the North Shore and visit Gooseberry Falls and other Minnesota State Parks.

Hawk’s Ridge and Hartley Nature Center give visitors an education on the area’s flora and fauna - plants and animals.

The Lakewalk runs along the shores of Lake Superior for 3 miles from Canal Park/Bayfront to London Road in eastern Duluth.  The Duluth section of the Willard Munger State Trail runs 63 miles between Duluth and Hinckley, MN.  The Lakewalk and Munger State Trail are paved and easily traversed on foot or bicycle.

Not ready for a long walk, take a drive along the 25 miles of Skyline Drive.  This drive will provide excellent views of Duluth, Superior WI, and Lake Superior and will take you through Enger Park, Hawk’s Ridge and along Seven Bridges Road.

Spend an evening viewing the stars at the Alworth Planetarium every Wednesday.

Enjoy live jazz music at Club Saratoga in Canal Park on Saturday evenings.

Take time to read a book, play a game or enjoy storytime at the Duluth Public Library.

For not too much money, you can visit the Depot Train Museum.  If you don’t mind spending a little more money, you can enjoy one of several train rides up the North Shore.  Some rides include meals.

While they do charge admission, the Lake Superior Zoo is a must see for the whole family.  Becoming a member will get you free admission as well as discounted admission at other nationwide zoos.

Tour Lake Superior aboard the Vista Fleet boats.  Admission can be small for a narrated site-seeing tour or more expensive for the fabulous dinner cruise.

A list of events for Duluth MN can be found at Visit Duluth.  A list of events for Superior WI, just across the bridge from Duluth, can be found at the Superior Chamber.

    Duluth

Posted on April 6th 2009 in Attractions

The boats are moving in the harbor and on Lake Superior.  Daily shipping information can be found at the Duluth Shipping News plus other intersting facts.  A few ships got caught in some ice last week but the warmer weather and winds have moved most of it out into Lake Superior.  Canal Park is the place to view the ships coming through the canal beneath the Aerial Lift Bridge.  The Inn on Lake Superior hotel offers a fantastic view of the lake and ships coming in and out from their lakeside rooms.
