    With over 4 miles of Lakewalk along Lake Superior, 129 parks, playgrounds & public places, 2 golf courses, 8 hiking trails, and lots of attractions, Duluth Minnesota is the place to be this summer.  The Edgewater Resort & Waterpark is the perfect family hotel with easy access to Duluth Family Fun.  Chester Creek Summer concerts begin June 2 at 7 pm and are free to everyone. They run every Tuesday through August 4.  Movies in the Park take place at Leif Erickson park every Friday night after sunset beginning June 19.  Love Winter?  The Duluth Heritage Sports Center offers summer skating on Wednesdays starting June 14 at 1:30 pm.  Bring your own skates!  People wanting to play disc golf can use the 18-hole Miller Creek course by Lake Superior College.  The new skateboard park is open at Wheeler Field at 35th Avenue West and Grand Avenue.  Other skate parks include Gary New Duluth, Keene Creek, Midtown Park, and the Depot parking lot.  Playgrounds can be found throughout the city in every neighborhood and are open to the public.  Playfront Park at Bayfront offers amusements and tons or room to run around.  The City of Duluth has many hiking trails that travers the city.  Lester Park and Enger Park have two great golf courses in the area, including Junior clinics and lessons.  

    There is always something to do in Duluth.

    The Renegade Comedy Theater presents Comedy Night at the Peasantworks Porch in Canal Park - just above Hell’s Kitchen Restaurant.  Summer hours begin with the Superior Public Museums Grand Reopening.  Visit for FREE the Old Firehouse & Police Museums and the SS Meteor on Barker’s Island.  Get out and support Animal Allies with their Walk for Animals on Saturday, May 16.  The Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra presents Classical 7 on Saturday night.  The annual cleanup of the St.Louis River is also on Saturday. Volunteers are encouraged to help out.  Information may be found at the St. Louise River website or by calling 218-733-9520.

    Backyard SmoresBackyard BBQ starts at the Inn on Lake Superior Friday – June 19th – held every weekend until the middle of October – hours on Fridays and Saturdays are from 6pm to 7pm.

    May is National Bike Month.  Transportation for America, ARDC, Red Rock Radio and Continental Ski and Bike have joined together in an effort to encourage Duluth/Superior residents to ride their bikes to work!  

    May 11-15
    Bike to Work Week – area residents are encouraged to ride their bikes to work!

    May 15th
    BIKE TO WORK DAY Celebration All day from 7am till 7pm at Fitger’s.  There will be gift bags for cyclists (full of cool stuff), free safety checks, free Fitger’s coffee & food, prizes and local celebs along with a fashion show at lunchtime around Fitger’s.

    There will be refreshments and bike safety checks at the Minnesota Power Plaza, Lake Avenue and Superior Street, from 7-9am

    The DTA will be giving free bus fare to cyclists with their bikes all day on May 15th.

    When asked to join in the events and participate in riding his bike to work, Mayor Don Ness replied “I’m game”!

    Cyclists are encouraged to challenge their co-workers and pledge that they’ll ride to work in the months of May and June for Western Lake Superior Habitat for Humanity.  The cyclist with the most pledges will win a bike from Continental Ski and Bike.  Pledge forms are available at Fitger’s front desk, Continental Ski and Bike or Red Rock Radio .
