Outside Magazine has ranked the Best Towns in America to live in for fitness, fun and packed with adventure and Duluth, Minnesota made the list in their August 2007 issue. For those of us that live here all year, we already knew that Duluth, MN has everything for anybody. This city has scenic hiking and biking trails, waterways galore for kayaking and boating, restaurants to fit anyone’s food taste, and outdoor adventures like fishing, rock climbing and surfing. Yes, you can surf in Lake Superior. The waves are especially high as the storms roll in off the Lake. More recently, Duluth visitors have seen some adventurous kitesurfers on the waters.
Winter brings a whole new look and new activities to Duluth for outdoor enthusiasts. Downhill and cross-country skiing are popular as well as exploring the area on snowmobile. Many of the trails used by hikers and bikers in the summer become available to cross-country skiers and snowmobilers in the winter. Anglers can still get their fill with ice fishing. The City of Duluth supports community ice skating rinks. If the cold comes in and the snow hangs back, area rivers and lakes will freeze nicely giving ice skaters a different kind of adventure.
