A few ships got caught in some ice last week but the warmer weather and winds have moved most of it out into Lake Superior. Canal Park is the place to view the ships coming through the canal beneath the Aerial Lift Bridge. The Inn on Lake Superior hotel offers a fantastic view of the lake and ships coming in and out from their lakeside rooms.

The North Shore Scenic Railroad at The Depot offers narrated rides and various entertainment trains including pizza trains, tea trains, and murder mystery trains. The Lake Superior & Mississippi Railroad in West Duluth takes passengers on a journey along the St. Louis River.
The S.S. William A. Irvin Ore Boat Museum, aka Great Lakes Floating Maritime Museum, gives visitors and up close look at the inside of an ore boat. Visitors in October will get a thrill from the haunted ship as this ore boat turns into the spookiest venue in town.
The historic Congdon Estate, Glensheen, offers a look at the past in rich detail. Visitors can tour this Lake Superior mansion and grounds most of the year. The Fairlawn Museum in Superior is one of America’s castles. Visitors will enjoy this Victorian era mansion as well as the views of Barker’s Island.
2010 marks a big change in what the Vista Fleet will be offering it’s guest, and it is all for the best. The Vista Fleet will be changing it’s entire line of services with big improvements in guest services and products.
Our spring season will start May 21st and will consist of 3 sightseeing cruises a day, Wednesday thru Sunday. We will have several Special Event cruises throughout spring including 2 Mother’s day Cruises, a Memorial Weekend Brunch, and a 2 Father’s Day Cruise featuring BBQ from Famous Dave’s.
Most public cruises this year will be on the pride of the Vista Fleet, the Vista Star. It is the 3 deck boat that has been the host of the lunch and dining cruises in the past years. This year’s schedule will start with a 10:30 sightseeing cruise with updated narration and enhanced viewing on the 7 video displays that are being placed on the Vista Star. The next cruise of the day will be the New Pizza Lunch Cruise which will feature 3 types of pizza from Tiki Tina’s Pizzeria and Salad. Sightseeing will follow with a departure time of 3pm and than we will be offering a new type of cruise… the Happy Hour Cruise which will depart at 5pm and take a one hour lake cruise and feature great, relaxing music and drink specials, a great way to wind down after a hard day at work or to kick off a night of entertainment. Finally we will set sail with our dinner cruise, Sunday thru Wednesday, which will be a Fun Filled Family Fun Cruise featuring Tiki Tina Pizza, Salad and a build your own Sundae along with fun activities for the kids (of all ages) and maybe a suprise visit from a favorite character from the local waterpark!! Thursday, Friday and Saturday we are introducing our NEW Sunset Dinner Cruise, departing at 7:30, this 2 and a half hour cruise will take you down the Superior Front Channel, out the Superior Entry and spend the last hour and a half out on the Majestic Lake Superior, watching the Sunset over Minnesota’s most Beautiful Skyline and seeing the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge light up and show us the way back, passing under the area’s most famous landmark. Included in this cruise is our new dinner selection. This year we will be providing table service (no more buffet) and a selection of Prime Rib, Champagne Chicken, Northern Minnesota Baked Walleye or Vegetarian Lasagna… and for the Hearty Eater a combination plate that will feature Prime Rib and Champagen Chicken. All food will be prepared by Award Winning Savories Catering and served hot to you at your table.

Starting Friday, October 2, the William A. Irvin ore boat is opening its Haunted Ship Tours. This is by far the most scary thing you can do to celebrate Halloween. Tours are only Friday and Saturday until October 22 when they open Thursday - Saturday. Tours begin at 6:30 pm. Adults and Children 13 & Up - $8.00. Children 12 & Under - $6 and must be accompanied by a parent. Parental guidance is suggested. This tour is Not Handicapped accessible and is not for the faint of heart. 218-722-7876�

Tickets are now available for the 3rd Annual McDougall’s Dream Dinner and Silent Auction on board the SS Meteor Whaleback Ship Museum in Superior, Wisconsin. This fundraising event helps support the restoration and preservation of the worlds only remaining non-submerged whaleback steamer. The whalebacks were built in Superior Wisconsin at the American Steel Barge Company. The Meteor was launched in 1896, sailed for 70+ years and was then donated to the City of Superior to be operated as a ship museum. 2008 will mark her 112 anniversary - and 35 years as a museum.
Ticket price is $35 and includes, optional tour of the ship, gourmet dinner buffet catered by the Boathouse Restaurant, music and entertainment and the chance to bid in the silent acution. Built between 1905 and 1908, Glensheen, the historic Congdon estate, gives a wonderful look at the life of a wealthy family a century ago. Set on the shores of Lake Superior, the 7.6 acre estate offers tours of the mansion and carriage house. Visitors can also tour the formal gardens which have retained much of their original design. This mansion museum is on the list of National Register of Historic Places.
