The Best Seat for the Fourth of July FIREWORKS
Posted on July 3rd 2007 in Vista Fleet, Duluth Entertainment Convention Center DECC
Looking for a great way to enjoy the Fourth of July and the Fireworks, come and join the Vista Fleet.
During the day come and see the activity in the Harbor with one of the largest ships working on the Great Lakes, the James R. Barker. She is scheduled to arrive in Duluth around 10:30 am to take on over 70,000 tons of coal from the Superior Midwest Energy Terminal in Superior, WI. The coal that she’s loading will be taken down to Presque Isle, MI to an energy plant to powers a great portion of Detriot, MI. She is 1004 feet long, meaning you could put three football fields end for end on her deck and still have room for a complete stadium. She is a modern frieght ship with a self unloading boom and bow thrusters, see Duluth Shipping News for more information on her and other ships.
The Barker will be followed by the American Spirit due in between 4:30 and 5:30 pm. She is also a large ship measuring 1000 feet in length. There are only 13 ships operating on the Great Lakes that measure 1000 feet or longer.
A great way to see these ships and much more is to ride along with the Vista Fleet on the one of their three boats; the Vista Star, Vista King both out of Duluth next to the DECC and the Vista Queen which sails out of Barkers Island in Superior, WI. In addition, the Vista Star has great menus for two cruises per day.
Duluth, Minnesota Weather is notoriously fickle and incredibly beautiful. Here’s the latest weather-Duluth, MN style.
