Posted on April 24th 2007 in Entertainment

Attractions abound and are plenty enough to fill any visitor’s day to the city of Duluth, but if you are looking for something more to do…Duluth has got that for you too.

Bayfront Festival Park has wide open spaces for flying kites, tossing a Frisbee or just having a picnic. Summer months bring music and entertainment with the Bayfront Blues Festival as well as local entertainers. Not far from the park is the Lakewalk. This boardwalk extends for miles along the shores of Lake Superior. Duluth Visitors can walk, run, rollerblade, or bicycle their way along the Lakewalk. Multiple seated bikes may be rented in Canal Park.

Just over the Aerial Lift Bridge is Park Point. Visitors can meander to the Park Point Beach and enjoy jumping the waves of Lake Superior, search for agates, enjoy a game of volleyball in the park, or play with the kids in the playground. With Lake Superior as your back yard, take a charter fishing expedition for the day with licensed guides and equipment provided.

The grass is greener for any golf game in Duluth, MN and there are three public golf courses in Duluth, MN and Superior, WI.Duluth supports many festivals and events all year. The Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra features family, pop and classical concerts. Art and craft fairs can be found during the summer on Park Point and at Glensheen. The Lake Superior Dragon Boat Festival is held at Barkers Island each year to the delight of visitors from all over. The DECC brings in world-class shows each year. The Proctor Speedway near Duluth and the Superior Speedway in Wisconsin offer visitors a chance to watch stock car racing.

Vista Fleet BoatsLooking for a great way to enjoy the Fourth of July and the Fireworks, come and join the Vista Fleet.

During the day come and see the activity in the Harbor with one of the largest ships working on the Great Lakes, the James R. Barker. She is scheduled to arrive in Duluth around 10:30 am to take on over 70,000 tons of coal from the Superior Midwest Energy Terminal in Superior, WI. The coal that she’s loading will be taken down to Presque Isle, MI to an energy plant to powers a great portion of Detriot, MI. She is 1004 feet long, meaning you could put three football fields end for end on her deck and still  have room for a complete stadium. She is a modern frieght ship with a self unloading boom and bow thrusters, see Duluth Shipping News for more information on her and other ships. Read the rest of this entry »
