    A Family Tradition

People ask us all the time, what do you mean by “It’s a family tradition?” It’s easy. Our grandparents started in the restaurant business in Keewatin, Minnesota in the early 1950’s. They had a small café featuring home cooking. After a lot of encouragement from their customers, they decided to move their operation to the more populated part of Hibbing. Their idea was to open a pizza shop, even though there weren’t too many people in the area who knew what pizza was! From their home kitchen in Keewatin, they applied trial and error to formulate recipes for pizza sauce, dough, spaghetti and meatballs that they felt people would like. What followed was more then they ever expected. The recipes were well received and the pizzas were an instant hit.

As their business proved to be a success, they helped their family and friends open their own pizza shops. That first café eventually grew into twenty-four restaurants throughout Minnesota, Wisconsin, North and South Dakota. With sons and daughters, nephews, nieces and cousins, we are now into our third generation of pizza makers. We are very proud of the fact that you can walk into a Sammy’s restaurant in four different states and find a member of the Perrella family behind the counter.

It is with great pride that we carry on the same philosophy our grandparents started over forty years ago. Not by confusing people with the most gimmicks or by being that fastest or cheapest. Not by having the most trinkets and contests or the snappiest slogan. But by doing whatever you can to be the best at what you do.

Our family has served this area all these years by following a simple concept: Be an innovator, not a follower. Take the proper time to prepare something right. Strive for a home-cooked quality product, a fair price and personal service. Go through the extra effort and expense to be the best. Only serve a meal that you would be proud to serve to guests in your own home.

That’s what our “Family Tradition” means. Our satisfied customers have proven this formula to be a success for over forty years and we feel that it will continue for many generations to come.
