With over 4 miles of Lakewalk along Lake Superior, 129 parks, playgrounds & public places, 2 golf courses, 8 hiking trails, and lots of attractions, Duluth Minnesota is the place to be this summer.  The Edgewater Resort & Waterpark is the perfect family hotel with easy access to Duluth Family Fun.  Chester Creek Summer concerts begin June 2 at 7 pm and are free to everyone. They run every Tuesday through August 4.  Movies in the Park take place at Leif Erickson park every Friday night after sunset beginning June 19.  Love Winter?  The Duluth Heritage Sports Center offers summer skating on Wednesdays starting June 14 at 1:30 pm.  Bring your own skates!  People wanting to play disc golf can use the 18-hole Miller Creek course by Lake Superior College.  The new skateboard park is open at Wheeler Field at 35th Avenue West and Grand Avenue.  Other skate parks include Gary New Duluth, Keene Creek, Midtown Park, and the Depot parking lot.  Playgrounds can be found throughout the city in every neighborhood and are open to the public.  Playfront Park at Bayfront offers amusements and tons or room to run around.  The City of Duluth has many hiking trails that travers the city.  Lester Park and Enger Park have two great golf courses in the area, including Junior clinics and lessons.

There is always something to do in Duluth.

What family activities (indoor) would you recommend during our upcoming visit just before Christmas?

First, I would recommend stay at the Edgewater Resort & Waterpark http://www.duluthwaterpark.com They have an indoor waterpark, arcade and grill. While not indoors, I would not miss visiting Bentleyville at Bay Front Park during that time. It is a holiday city of lights, song, Santa, hot chocolate, cookies and more. Visit https://www.duluthmn.gov/parks/bentleyville.cfm for more information. We also recommend visiting the Great Lake Aquarium and The Depot Museum and the Children’s Museum. There is also rockclimbing at Vertical Endeavors at Carnival Thrillz.

Are there any especially family-friendly restaurants that you would recommend for 1-4 year olds? (beyond McDonalds & chain restaurants)

Famous Dave’s in Canal Park is adjoining to Thrillz, an arcade and fun things to do kind of place. Grandma’s restaurants will offer coloring to the children and the restaurant has a lot of interesting things on the walls and ceiling that are fun to look at and talk about.
